Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Vibrant New Painting Ideas Are Perfect for Bedrooms

By

Pretty much anything goes when it comes to painting ideas for bedrooms these days. The era of one basic color with white ceilings has passed into the trend for bright hues and patterned walls making bedroom décor more exciting than it has ever been before. All it takes is a bit of imagination, possibly a theme, and maybe ideas gleaned from pictures you'll find on the Internet in order to turn a bedroom into a showplace where you can relax, kick back, and dream. The great thing about paint is that it can give your room an entirely new look for not a whole lot of money, so you can feel free to indulge your whims. If you decide you don't like it any more, you can always cover it up with another coat.

Paint is available in virtually any color you can imagine. One brand even advertised on TV that if you brought anything of the color you wanted into their store, they would match it in paint. With this being true, there's no reason you can't get inspiration from a lovely comforter, a favorite figurine, or a floor rug. You don't want to be afraid of getting a bit radical, because that's the name of the game now. It's unnecessary to paint every wall the same. One common method is to paint most of the walls a basic shade and then paint at least a part of one wall with a more vibrant shade. People also achieve this same type of look by painting walls one color part way up and then finishing the tops with something else.

Wallpaper used to be a norm, but not as many people use it any more. It has gotten to be more expensive than what anyone wants to pay, and paints have improved a great deal in usability and durability making them the wall coating of choice. There are so many things you can achieve by just using paint. You could try doing a wall of large squares in alternating colors, use vertical panels of color, add horizontal lines in a contrasting shade, or go all out and paint a mural on an entire wall. Whatever you can dream up, you can create with paint.

Although you may prefer to decorate the rest of your home in a more subdued manner, your bedroom is your oasis, and you can change it to suit yourself. The same is true when you help design a room for a child. For example, you can look at your child's room as a blank canvas where you you'll be able to paint a world in which he or she can work, play, sleep, and enjoy alone-time. Make sure you get input from the child when coming up with the décor, because children love to be a part of planning their own spaces. They have a lot of painting ideas for their bedrooms to help make them their own.

Admit it, you're thinking about changing up your bedroom. How do you do it though? Visit betterbedroomideas.com for more tips on bedroom closet organizers and iron bed frames and learn how you can do more.

Modern Interior Decorating Painting Accessories

By: mite bowen

With the improvement in lifestyle of the people over the years, aesthetics have played a major role in their lives. People have seem to pay close attention to things like their looks, the outfits and clothing, interior and outdoor decoration of their apartments or bungalows etc. Interior architecture of an apartment these days is given a careful consideration as people consider their standard of living to be a high priority. This includes the positioning of different objects in home, location of different rooms, themes to be applied in each room and the painting to be done according to the same. With the development of technology there are various types of paints available in the market, the latest ones being focussed on organic compounds to increase the life of the paint and reduce the indirect effects on pollution.

The new types of paints integrated with insulating paint additives which are in the form of different chemicals like thinners and thickeners, wetting agents etc. These insulating paint additives help making the paint coating more water resistant and resistant to heat. The life of these paints also increase because they become less corrosive and abrasive hereby decreasing the time span to replace the paint. Thus people generally prefer these types of paints even when they cost high because of their longer life and it benefits customers more in the long run.

For a satisfied coat of paint on the walls, the painters have to be equipped with proper set of paint accessories. These include paint rollers which are used for smoothening the paint coating on the wall, painting overalls which are a form of clothing to prevent the clothes from getting messed up. These paint accessories also include tools like sand paper which is used to remove stains, paint brushes of various sizes, cans for spray painting and even ladders to reach and access difficult areas.

Today, there are over thousands of shades available in the market for customers to choose for their homes or offices which are available in all range of prices. Various companies manufacturing these types of paints have led to a considerable competition for the market which is making it possible for new technologies to come out for their brand to stabilise in the market. Also, with the real estate sector growing on a large scale with countries developing over years, the use of construction materials and things like paint is bound to increase.

Repainting Wood Fence Posts

Fence Light

Repainting Wood Fence Posts

By: Kurt Zier

Sometimes you may have a wood fence that is painted and it wears over time, needing the fence and the wood fence posts to be repainted. Repainting wood fence posts is sometimes forgotten, as people are quick to get the rest of the fence done. Repainting wood fence posts is done the same as repainting the wood fence itself. There are a few easy steps to follow when repainting fence posts and you can also follow these same steps to do the entire fence.
Before doing the actual painting of the wood fence posts, there is some preparation that needs to be done. If the wood fence posts were previously painted and it has worn off or faded or flaked off, you will need to strip the posts of the old paint. This can be done using sandpaper, a paint scraper, or both. Sandpaper might take a little bit longer but will create a smoother work surface, and a scraper will get the job done quicker. You should think about your timeline and your own wood fence posts and decide which would be the better option for you. Whatever tool you choose, go ahead and start to strip the old paint from the fence posts and the wood fence. When you have all the old paint off, you can check for any loose nails, screws or staples on the posts and the rest of the fence. Perhaps there are some nails that are necessary to hold the fence together, and in that case, you should replace them before you paint the wood fence and wood fence posts. Check for any cracks in the wood and if you find some that are large enough to be an eyesore, you might want to fill them with wood filler. Check that there aren\'t any wood fence posts that have been destroyed by the weather or by termites or anything else, and if there is one that is beyond repair, you might need to replace it before moving on to the paint. When you are sure that the wood fence and wood fence posts are in good condition you can start to paint. Use a brush and go ahead and get a thick glob of paint on it and brush it on to the wood fence posts, starting with the open grain end and moving down to the front, side and eventually the back of the post. When you are done painting the wood fence posts, you can check each one and see if you would like to add a second coat of paint and maybe even a third to further protect them from getting worn out too soon.
It is important to keep your fence and your fence posts in top shape and if your fence is painted, you might need to repaint it every few years so that it looks really nice. It is not real hard to repaint a wood fence post and if you follow some simple instructions, you can get it done properly and quickly.

Painting an Old Picket Fence

Picket fence at the beach

Painting Your Old Picket Fence

By: Kurt Zier

A picket fence can really give your home a cozy cottage look that just calls to people to make themselves at home. Many years ago, a picket fence was only made out of wood, and was typically white washed. These days a picket fence can be made out of so many other materials, such as vinyl or metal. A wooden picket fence is classic, but after going through the weather of winter or the rains of spring, you may need to repaint your wooden picket fence. It is a satisfying feeling to see the fence repainted and looking fresh and new again after you are finished. There are a few things that you can do to prepare your picket fence for being repainted.
The first step in preparing your picket fence to be repainted is to strip the old paint off of the fence. There are many ways to do this, such as scraping it, sandblasting it, using a power wash or sandpaper, or using paint removing chemicals. Perhaps a good way to get the old paint off of a picket fence is to dress your kids or your neighbor\'s kids in old t-shirts, give them each a scraper, and pay them twenty five cents a slat (but make sure to supply some good lemonade!). Scraping the paint or sanding it off could possibly be the most efficient ways to get the paint off a picket fence.
Next, you want to make sure that there are no loose nails that need to be pulled out, hammered in, or replaced. There might be screws or staples, too and you will want to make sure and get all of those out also. Look over the picket fence and fill in any holes or dents with wood filler so that the picket fence will look really smooth when it is done. There are wood protectants that you can purchase that will protect the wood on your picket fence, and you will probably want to use one that is clear. After you apply the protectant, wait for it to completely dry before moving on to the next step. The next step is to use caulking and go over any places where the wood on the picket fence is cracked or split.
When all the prep work is done for your picket fence, you can start painting with a primer and you want one that will dry slowly. It might be a good idea to have the paint store tint the primer the same color as the paint you are going to paint the picket fence with. When the primer is completely dry you can start to paint the fence with your paint, and you will probably want to do at least two layers, allowing each layer to dry completely before applying the next one.
A wooden picket fence is always a classic touch to have surrounding your home that just makes it look cozy and quaint. You probably want your picket fence to always be in good repair and painted nicely so that it is welcoming and beautiful.

Painting Your Fence With An Airless Sprayer

By: Kurt Zier

A white picket fence is a classic look for any home and really adds some design and protection for your home. A white picket fence might be the first thing someone sees as they approach your home, so you will want to keep appealing. Perhaps your white picket fence needs a fresh coat of paint, but you just really do not want to paint each slat by hand. There is an airless paint sprayer that you can use to paint your white picket fence without the hassle of doing it one slat at a time.
Before you get to painting your white picket fence, you will need to prepare the fence for painting. You can start by stripping the old paint off of the fence, using heavy sandpaper or a scraper. A scraper might be a little bit more time efficient, but sandpaper will make the area smoother. You might be able to just use an electric sander and get the job done fairly quickly and also make it smooth. If you use a sander, you will still need to be sure and get between each slat of the white picket fence by hand. After it is all looking smooth, you will want to make sure there are no places in your white picket fence that might need repair. You may have to replace a nail, screw, or staple before starting to paint the fence. If you come across a crack or a hole that is small enough, you can fill it with wood filler. There might be a crack or a hole in the fence that is that is too big for repair, and you will need to replace that slat before painting the white picket fence. Once the fence is in good repair, you are ready to start painting with the airless sprayer. First, strain the exterior wood primer and paint through strainers and into two separate buckets that have been cleaned. An airless paint spray gun has a reservoir that you will now fill with the wood primer and spray it on the fence in a fine, even mist. Before starting on your white picket fence you might want to cover your bushes, grass, or other landscaping that is around the fence to protect them from the primer and paint. As you spray the white picket fence, you should use slow up and down motions so that the primer is painted on evenly. You may have to tilt the sprayer to an angle to reach between the slats, but make sure that you are not globbing it on so that it runs and creates drips. The primer will need to be completely dry before you start spraying the paint onto the white picket fence and you will spray the paint the same way as the primer, in very even strokes. It might be better to do many thin coats, rather than one thick coat, because thick paint will run worse than thin paint. There might be spaces on the white picket fence, perhaps between slats, that will need to be touched up with a brush, so you will want to check for these spots before calling it good.

Decorative Paint Techniques

Tips for Exterior Painting

By: mythic paint

Dining rooms these days tend to serve more than one purpose.  Besides being the place for families to gather and have a meal, it now has become the place to fold laundry and do homework.  Because they are often used rooms, a fresh coat of VOC free paint goes a long way in refreshing the space.  There are certain colors that work well in dining rooms.  Red is a color that stimulates appetite.  Be sure to use a non-toxic paint though, otherwise you wont want to eat because of all the fumes making you sick. Orange is know to excite and engage, making conversations around the table more lively. By choosing a rust color interior paint, you still get the benefits of the color orange without it being so bright. Green is a comforting color, which helps make guest feel at home. Dark green wall paint would make a dining room look elegant. Ether way, a fresh coat of zero VOC paint would freshen up your dining room for all its many purposes.
Use Nature to Decorate Your Babies Nursery

With so many parents choosing not to learn the sex of their babies, the trend for baby nursery decorating has shifts towards designs
suited for both boys and girls. Parents have been reaching out to colors and looks found in nature to inspire their baby nursery. The
great thing about using nature as a guide is that all the colors are calming, which is important in baby nursery decorating. Babies should
feel comfortable and secure in their rooms, and colors like green, brown and blue are known to give off feelings of calmness and
contentment. In a nature themed baby nursery, a great addition is a tree, which parents are painting on the wall using VOC free paint.
This adds a nice final touch and allows for the baby to have a stimulating, but safe object to adore from their crib.

All About Latex Paint

You may see that Mythic paint is touted as being 100% Acrylic Latex paint, but you may have no idea what that means. First, Latex paint is known for drying quickly, as well as being opaque, which means it can completely cover the color of the wall its being painted on. Also, Latex paint is washable since it is thinned with water. So when you are doing painting with it, you can rinse the brushed out with water, verses using a toxic and expensive paint thinner. Latex paint is also easy to use since it works well on surfaces that have been painted with latex or flat oil-based paints.

Painting A Wood Picket Fence

By: Kurt Zier

There may come a time when you need to do a repair on a vinyl or aluminum picket fence, but on a wooden picket fence, you may need to repaint it each year as it may go through some bad weather. The heat of summer and the moisture of winter can each affect a wooden picket fence so that it will need a little bit of tender loving care to start looking new and inviting again. A picket fence is often the first thing a person might see when approaching your house and you always want it to be in top repair so it is welcoming to your guests.
The first thing to do when repainting your wooden picket fence is to strip the fence of the old paint. There are many ways to do this, such as sandblasting, using a power wash, or using a paint removing chemical, but the most typical ways are sanding the paint off and scraping the paint off. Repainting a picket fence might be something your kids would want to help with, and scraping the old paint off the picket fence is a great job for the kids to do. Put them in an old t-shirt, give them a scraper or sandpaper, and tell them you\'ll give them a dime for each slat they sand down on the picket fence. Not only will it save you a little time to go buy some supplies for your picket fence, but it will teach the kids about hard work. After the scraping is completely done, you might want to do an inspection of all the wood of the picket fence to make sure there are no nails, screws or staples that need to be removed or hammered back in. You want your picket fence to be in good repair before moving on to the next step, which is filling in any holes or dents with a wood filler. When the holes and dents in the picket fence are all filled in then you can apply a clear product that will protect your wood that you can purchase at a home repair store. After the wood protector is completely dry, you should use caulking on the cracks and splits in the wood of your picket fence so that you have a nice surface to paint. Before you apply the paint, you might want to paint on a primer, which you might be able to have the paint department tint to the same color as your paint. When you purchase your primer, you will want one that dries slowly, and when it is completely dry, you can then paint the picket fence. You will probably want to do two or more coats of paint on your picket fence, letting the paint dry in between layers.
A picket fence is a great attraction for your company and just a fun way to make your house look quaint and cozy. A picket fence that is made from wood will eventually weather over time, so you will probably want to be sure and repaint your picket fence when you notice that it is looking weathered. It is not too hard to do and is worth the time and effort you will put into it.

Tips On Painting And Decorating

Dulux Killenard Community Centre 24 February 2011

Painting and Decorating Advice from Anglia Decor Ltd.

Extend the life of external redecoration.
http://www.angliadecor.co.uk

Of course, quality brand materials will stand the test of time more than economy makes. The material cost to a redecoration job is always the smallest part, say 10% of total cost, so attempting to save money here is a false economy. The leading brand manufactures such as Dulux, Crown, Leyland etc. invest more in research that improve performance of coatings.

Choosing the right materials for the job, eg. Hammerite or Metalshield for metal railings rather than standard gloss- even though you would not see a difference once applied.

Another example of choosing the right materials would be in painting a galvanised finish. A regular metal primer would not adhere long term to a galvanised finish, hence either Mordens solution or a Bin primer would be a better choice.

There are many products on the market that provide longer term protection for external redecorations

Dulux Ultimate wood stains provides 10 year protection, a solvent based product in various colours

Sadolin woodshield provides 8 year protection and is a water based product in various colours

Dulux weathershield all seasons masonry paint provides 15 year protection, is a solvent based product in various colours

Dulux weathershield exterior gloss a 3 part system providing 8 year protection, oil based and various colours
Workmanship

Another very important part of the overall longevity of the redecoration is the workmanship employed to carry out the works. The cheapest quote is not always the best value for money, if for example the contractor wont perform adequate prep work due to a economy price quoted. To find a professional decorator in the U.K. try the Painting and Decorating Association. It is the marque of quality for the painting and decorating industry.
Preparation and sound base

The preparation and base coat is the most important part of the redecoration process. If the existing woodwork coatings have failed and bare wood has become exposed it is important that the wood is dry. Otherwise painting will seal the moisture in the wood and the coatings applied will fail. This is why it is preferable to redecorate joinery in summer / dry climates.

Any failing coatings, blistered or cracked paint should be scraped back using a scraper or scarson blade. From there, as long as the wood is dry you have a choice of primer coat to seal the bare wood so coatings can adhere:

Stained windows- Dulux preservative basecoat

Glossed windows- Dulux primer undercoat

Dulux zinc woodprimer

Dulux preservative basecoat

I’m sure Crown, Leyland and the other leading brands also have their similar primer coatings and preservative base-coats. Do a web search to find them online.
Mastic / chaulk sealant to prevent water ingress

This step can be performed during the preparation phase or at any time after completion. The edge where the window glass meets the beading can be sealed using window sealant or chaulk and this will ensure water can’t soak into the wood and cause wet rot. It is a simple process and very quick to carry out.
After care of windows and joinery

To keep the windows clean will help preserve. If you have a problem with birds fouling on the sills this will eat away at the coatings, try fitting spikes to solve the problem. Keep a check on the woodwork every few months, if just the beading starts to crack you could get someone in to seal the problem areas and postpone the next redecoration further.
Warranty period

Remember to ask for a warranty on the redecoration works. The Painting and decorating Association recommend its members provide a minimum 6 month warranty, many companies offer 12 months. If there are any problems within the time period, use your warranty. The decorating firm will be happy to rectify and keep their customer for the long term.

Paint A House

Colors by Pantone

When Deciding To Paint A

House, What Are The

First Steps To Be Taken?

By

You have decided to paint your home and have realized that there are many different factors that you must consider. You now realize that it is not as simple as just picking a color that you like, and the job is done. You have a figured out that everything in the home must work together. From the colors on the walls, to the furniture in the room, to the atmosphere that is created when you walk in. What purpose does that room serve? These are all things that you must take into consideration when painting your home. The way the exterior looks is also very important.

If you are not planning to do the job yourself, you must know what to look for when choosing a painting contractor. House painting is a very detailed job, and if you do not hire someone with experience, you may find yourself very disappointed with the results. A good painting contractor will let you know everything that they plan to do and how it will be done. This includes the preparation of the room, to the types of paint that they will be using, and the method of clean up. Some house painting contractors will only tell you that they can do the job and when it will be done, without any explanation of the procedure at all.

If you are doing the entire interior of your home, the colors that you choose are of the utmost importance. Certain colors have different affects on people. Warm colors such as brown, cream or beige; seem to put people in a very relaxing mood. Colors like these are ideal to have in a family room or dining area. Other, more vibrant colors such as bright reds and blues, seem to work better in play areas or a recreation room. These colors are very exciting and tend to keep you alert and more active. Colors have mood changing properties as well in a room with vibrant colors. Bright colors tend to uplift a person's mood, where as darker rooms can seem a bit more depressing.

Picking the right colors for your home is a task within itself. There isn't any right or wrong colors; it is all a matter of choice. Many house painting contractors, if they are good, may offer suggestions on exterior colors for the home that compliment what you are doing with the interior. Different color combination's tend to be very eye catching and make you want to stay in one room more that another. The color of a room can determine if it is your favorite room in the house or not.

Finding a good painter contractor may take a little bit of time and effort, but it is well worth it. In the long run, some of the advice that they offer can make the world of difference. Color combination's and types of paint to be used are all up to you. Keep in mind that the colors of your home are a true reflection of you.
