How To Paint A Room

How To Paint A Room Perfectly

By

If you're about to paint a room, then have a look first at these tips right here. You may have heard that painting a room is all about the preparation. Well, you're right, but you have to prepare the right way to ensure great results every time.

Not only this, but by using the right sequence will save you time as well.

Before you paint:

Sheen level

Make sure that you select a paint with a sheen quality that suits your rooms. Matt paints are usually better to not reveal imperfections in the wall surface. The more satin or glossier ones, which are used in wet areas, are easier to clean.

Color match

Also check that the color matches, by bringing a sample of paint to the home depot store and getting a computer match, if you're painting one or two walls in a room and need it to match the rest.

Amount

Estimate the wall size and get enough paint accordingly. Remember that you will probably be doing 2 coats, so that this into account.

Ready to paint? Ready for the tip?

Here they are:

1. Ensure that you protect the floor first. Use cloth drops or plastic sheets to cover any piece of floor that may get paint dripped on, from the doorway to where you're painting.

2. Prepare the walls by removing dust, dirt or grime with sugar soap. Scrape off any loose paint.

3. Patch up any cracks or defects with putty, wait til dry, then sand off with a fine grade paper to ensure a smooth result.

4. If there are any large defects that have been fixed and are a different color or texture/sheen to the rest of the wall, you will need an undercoat for the entire wall to ensure that your paint will result in an even finish.

5. Mask any areas that need to be protected (eg light switches) with masking tape.

6. Mix the paint thoroughly with a paint mixer. Many people skip this step and the result will be paint that will change in color and thickness as you go.

7. Put an appropriate amount onto the paint tray, not too much, and use a small brush to 'cut' or paint the edges near the cornice or ceiling, skirting boards and edges of the walls.

8. Same as step six, except more pain, and this time to use a clean dry roller for the rest of the wall. Apply an even amount and coverage as you go, and keep overlapping the edges when still wet to not get edge marks in your painting.

9. Once done, wait til dry according to the instructions, and taking into consideration the humidity and heat, before repeating for a second coat.

10. Before the paint is dry, remove the masking tape on items that have been protected by this tape.

So as you can see, these steps are simple, but are important to follow. When you do, it a more pleasant task and will give much better results. When it comes to painting, it's in the details and doing things in the right order, and with a bit of practice, you'll have beautiful results each time.

Good luck and enjoy the painting!

6 Ideas For Painting Your

Living Room

By

The different rooms of your house require great attention as to the paint's color. One color might suit a particular room in the house but will not be a very good sight in another room. That is why people who want to paint their house should have proper knowledge and experience in painting.

If you want a living room makeover, then you will need good painting ideas. Check out these living room painting ideas:

1. First and foremost, you need to choose the color scheme to be used in your living room. This means that you have to choose the paint colors for your doors, walls, accessories, trims, and other accents.

2. Base your color scheme on the living room's largest furniture, the room's focal point, height of your ceiling, the lighting, how the room is to be used, the room's size, and the feeling that you want to create whenever you're inside the living room.

3. After that, it's now time to focus in choosing the paint finish because this can alter the feeling that you want to create. If your walls have minor imperfections, choose a paint finish that's matte or flat because it doesn't shine. This kind of finish also offers effective stain resistance.

4. For your doors, trims, and other architectural details, highlight them with a gloss finish by using semi-gloss or satin finish. It would be easier to clean these areas because of the texture's smoothness and the wall's sheen.

5. For the walls of your living room, you can use paints which are water-based or latex, but for your windows and doors, use acrylic paint.

6. Some color and types of paint require more that one coat application, so you should take that into account. One gallon of paint usually covers about 400 sq feet.

With a little creativity and hard work, you can turn your living room in to a masterpiece of your own creation. Your guests will be awed once they visit your house and see your living room.

Bedroom Paint Color Schemes and Design Ideas

By

Bedroom paint color schemes can help you redo your entire home. Often the bedroom is one of the last rooms to be decorated in a home simply because it's not open to the rest of the house. In typical fashion you might be putting yourself last even though it's your room. Use paint to transform your space on a budget.

You might want to go for a bolder master bedroom paint to make a big impact or add intimacy to a large space. You can make your room modern by going with a contemporary black or deep charcoal color. Paint one wall in a deep color to be the focal point of the space. If you have a low platform bed then paint the wall behind it darker to give the allusion of height and add importance to the room. The rest of the walls should be neutral and you may find that you want to add extra lighting to keep the room from becoming depressing.

You can still use black paint colors for bedrooms even if you aren't feeling daring. Start out with taupe walls; you can even use subtle damask wallpaper for a touch of elegance. Then paint your furniture black. This will give importance to a traditional four poster bed and lend a contemporary air. Make the room sparkle with crystal chandeliers and lamps to give your room a look of a fancy hotel suite.

You'll want to choose tones that are relaxing to create a space that you can actually sleep in such as pale green bedroom paint. Shades of gray, lavender and blue can also create a calming atmosphere. You might want to go for a monochromatic color scheme so that you don't break up the space. You can use different tones of the same color on moldings, doors and the walls. You can even keep the furniture in the same color family. Even if you are going for neutral ivories and browns the space will still be interesting because of the different textures and shades.

You should include a color for your furniture in your bedroom paint design. Before you just throw out pieces save the environment and your wallet with just a can of paint. You won't often find real wood furniture anymore; even if you are in a pricier furniture store you may just be getting some version of laminate. So use vintage pieces for graceful lines and a substantial feel. If you are working in a kid's room add interest to flat colored cabinets by painting each drawer a different color. You can buy small quarts of paint and use the same paint strip so things don't get too wild. Keep the rest of the room in one solid color with neutral accents so your painted furniture piece really pops.

Bedroom paint color schemes allow you to create a retreat. You can make a color palette that is uniquely you or drive home a theme for less money.

Decorator Paint

Hire Professional Painting Contractors For

Painting and Decorating Home Improvements

By

Home improvement is not something anyone should avoid doing. Self expression in ones home is just as important as the improvement. Knowhow and ability should not be reasons these two points are not achieved. Painting and decorating can be done by painting contractors, and this leaves the home owner with the satisfaction of a beautiful home without the worry of how to do the job.

Painting and decorating is often done by individuals. These are people who feel secure in taking that chance. Quite often these individuals are ammeters when it comes to this industry. This can sometimes lead to the amateur eventually using painting contractors. Once this task is taken on, he or she realizes that it is not an easy as it looks. Hiring a professional is the only way to complete the work correctly.

Hiring painting contractors can be a pretty hard task in itself. One should be careful not to fall for scams or con artists. References should be verified on anyone allowed into ones home, and this holds true for someone painting and decorating as well. There are many companies out there who want to do the best work possible and provide homes with beautiful painting jobs. Unfortunately, not all contract companies or individual contractor hold themselves to this same standard. There are a lot of people who would rather make a quick dollar, but also do a quick job. This quick job is often time horrible. Stains may be left on floors, streaks in the paint are on the walls, and the colours may be incorrect. It is best to work with a trusted company or individual.

Some people choose to do the painting and decoration themselves instead of using painting contractors because of cost savings. This savings is present in some cases, but in other cases the contractors are just as affordable. Most contractors will visit ones home and give a quote on the painting job. There can be a quote if the owner supplies the paint or if the contractor does. Typically, it is cheaper if the painter gets the paint because he or she may have a discount with a local store. The quotes are often a better deal if there are more rooms to paint. The price may also be affected by the level of difficulty. One should take the contractors quote and compare it to the cost of the paint and other supplies that will need to be purchased. Many times there is little if any difference at all in the price.

Painting ones home can be a fun but scary task. The fun part is picking out the colours and finding just the right trim to accent them. The scary part is the actual act of painting the room or rooms. Painting contractors are available to help with the painting and decorating of the home. As long as references are checked this business is a fairly safe bet. The prices can be just a cheap as a self done job.

Hiring painting contractors can be a pretty hard task in itself. One should be careful not to fall for scams or con artists. References should be verified on anyone allowed into one's home, and this holds true for someonepainting and decorating as well.
