Painting Of Buildings

A commercial office/retail building.

Ten Simple Steps for Painting Commercial Steel Buildings

By

Any metal commercial building with an internal structure that is fabricated mostly from steel is considered a steel building. External covering might not be the intended use. There are many usages and applications for this type of steel building. Building managers and property owners need to be knowledgeable about basic steel painting building methods.

Steel structures can be used as an office building, storage facilities, or for use as a well-structured building. Based on the nature of their use, a number of classifications for these structures exist.

Thanks mostly to the cost efficiency of these buildings; they are in use all around the world. Techniques for using these buildings have multiplied because the construction materials, building designs, and capability for production have increased.

The numerous materials that these buildings can be designed in make them more valuable since they are so pleasing to the eye. To guarantee a high quality product, an upgraded process is used for manufacturing. Inexpensive maintenance costs and ecological friendliness are key features of these commercial steel structures.

Steel buildings are relatively strong, stable, and long-lasting and feature insect and termite resistance. It is simple to reuse every steel component used in construction of the building. The material can be molded into an arch shape or be straight. The interior space might have some internal structural support.

The main reason for the use of metal is its strength and durability. If the structure is to last longer and maintain its beauty, regular care is necessary.

Tips for Painting a Commercial Steel Facility

Here are the basic tools needed: metal paint, sprayer, roller or paint brush, primers, putty, steel wool and a wire brush.

For the best outcome, these basic steps need to be followed by professional steel structural painters:

1. Prepare the surface to be painted
2. Use a one to three ratio of bleach and water to prepare the mixture
3. Painters use a wire brush to go over the surface with attention to affected areas
4. Soap and water is applied to do a final cleaning
5. Professional painters perform the final cleaning effectively by using a power washer
6. Apply primer is the next step in the process
7. To create a smooth base, a minimum of two coats must be completed
8. Primers can be applied with tools such as brushes or rollers
9. When the primer is dry, the surface is ready to be painted
10. Use acrylic paint on metal surfaces as they provide better results and last longer

When beginning a large steel structure painting project, it may seem that painting a steel building is a monumental undertaking. Essentially, this is because the buildings may be constructed in a shape or size that is unconventional or the building is very large. Building owners may think that the job is nearly impossible or overwhelming but with adequate planning, and professional painters on the job, a steel building is easy to paint and the results last longer when the right techniques are used.

Decorative Painting Techniques

Creative Painting Specialist Techniques

Making a elegant area might be as easy as attempting a decorating painting method. Based on the actual technique, the final results may end up being casual, trendy, or even sophisticated. Fake surface finishes will hide a wide range of sins, such as irregular as well as damaged drywall. Geometric styles may help to make a space appear smaller or perhaps bigger than it actually is. Washes bring incredible level of colour to get a spectacular outcome.

Simply because paint can be so affordable, you are able to go crazy using various designs as well as finishes. Out of the ordinary styles are usually a great means to express your own individual style and also help make your house really feel like home.

A few decorative painting methods will certainly need specific faux painting equipment and/or paint glaze, however you may be astonished at exactly what you can carry out with general household products.

Fake Surface finishes

Faux coatings usually are created in order to imitate some other surfaces. Marble, granite as well as some other natural stone effects, natural leather, parchment, and also timber grain surface finishes tend to be all preferred selections.

Using a bit of creativity, you can easily produce surface finishes which appear just like old metal- tarnished bronze, pewter or even gold, rusted tin or perhaps metal, and also fake verdigris can be achievable. Do not forget about the option of fake brick or even ceramic tile finishes- each work nicely within the kitchen area.

To get the most authentic result, retain a small sample or 2 or maybe a picture of the actual material you are attempting to create. Relate to this frequently when you blend and apply your colours.

Do not attempt perfection; a few unevenness and also variance in colour as well as texture usually are desirable. These small defects produce a more genuine finish, they will furthermore cover up much less than smooth surfaces.

Additional Popular Ornamental Surface Finishes.

A number of really common techniques call for making use of several paint colours as well as unusual items in order to produce unique textures. With regard to a subdued finish, select very similar colours and also sheens; far more spectacular outcomes may be attained through choosing different tones as well as layering shiny paints over smooth or even eggshell surface finishes.

Colour washing entails putting on a small wash of colour on top of an already present paint job. This method is reasonably easy and also produces deep, unconventional colours.

Ragging and also rag-rolling may be carried out using a range of products; cotton or even denim cloths, plastic-type bags, as well as saran wrap along with aluminium foil all produce fascinating and exceptional results.

Spattering can be a lot of fun technique regarding children's areas. Merely flick colour upon the walls utilizing some type of brush.By using thin paint plus rigid bristles generate small specks of colour; thicker paint along with soft bristles produce bigger blobs.

Sponging is actually a really organic-looking surface finish which may cover up imperfect drywall. Irregularly formed sea sponges usually deliver a much better outcome compared to regular kitchen sponges. This may become sometimes an additive or even a subtractive method, based upon the preferred outcome.

Stippling, or perhaps pouncing, entails dabbing colour on using a brush. The firmness, size of your brush, as well as the method it is held define the actual ultimate effect; this may end up being random or even really regimented.

Interior and exterior painting has become important part of home decoration. Quality painting to home interior and exterior not only enhances the beauty of homes but also helps in giving tidy look to desired area for longer.

As per modern thinking of homeowners, they have been taking help of professional home decoration services for several reasons. Some chief reasons are as follows:

New ideas

All technical painting skills become useless if one hasn't got new ideas for interior and exterior painting both. Developing ideas by own is a daunting task. For this, one can take help of service providers which are available in abundance these days.

As far as new painting ideas are concerned, professional painters consider following things:

• Likes & dislikes of clients - Companies first try to find out the likes and dislikes of clients regarding the genre and kind of painting for home interior and exterior. It matters a lot which kind of figures, abstractions, landscapes and styles like realistic, abstracted and expressionist are liked and selected by homeowners.

• Gathering ideas - Different areas of home are needed to be decorated with different finish color and style. For this, companies gather painting ideas in the form of photographs to let clients select the pattern and style of color easily.

• Earlier projects - Most of the time it happens that service providers make style and color selection of homeowners easier by presenting the photo galleries of earlier painting projects handled by the company.

• Own art ideas - Professional painters also try to give impressive look to client's choice of ideas for the painting and suggest the needed changes.

Modern techniques

There are several advanced painting techniques which modern companies have been following these days. Moreover, some exclusive techniques include:

• Strie - One of the decorative techniques is strie which is also known as dragging. Under this technique, staff of companies considers several things like walls are in good condition, work fast as the technique is straightforward, make vertical strokes, maintain the streaking effect and use more water to bring sagging in finish.

• Parchment stripes - Decorating walls with parchment stripes is another technique which creates sophisticated and classic look. Moreover, this technique requires preparing of walls by improving the shape, mixing of finish, marking lines with right tape and using the same paint for parchment and stripes as well.

• Crosshatch - This techniques is usually meant for decorating office walls. Taping windows & doors, applying the base coat of finish & leave to dry, taping the wall with masking paper, using dry brush to get the crosshatch finish, applying strokes vertically followed by horizontal strokes etc are some points which painters keep in mind for the said technique.

Apart from above discussed painting ideas and techniques, modern companies come with much more new techniques and ideas which can help one to get the distinct look of home and office interior as well as exterior.

Residential Painting - Painting Solutions For

Common Interior Painting Problems

By

The artist Beo Beyond creates light-up costume...

There are a myriad of problems that can occur with interior painted surfaces. Some happen to a newly painted surface and others happen over time. The best way to handle these unfortunate painting problems is to be aware of how to take preventative measures before you begin applying new paint. The following are a couple of the more common problems and how to correct or prevent their return.

There is something that commonly occurs called 'blocking' when two surfaces that have been painted end up being stuck together like the door jamb sticking to the door. This can happen because there has not been enough time for the paint to dry completely before the door or windows were closed. It can also be the result of using an inferior grade of gloss or semi-gloss paint. Using a better grade of gloss or semi-gloss acrylic latex paint is an easy solution. The lower grade latex paint, especially in humid conditions, does not have enough block resistance to prevent blocking from happening.

Burnishing is something that happens when there is a lot of brushing or rubbing against the painted surface. It causes a glossy or high sheen to appear. Flat paint in areas that have high traffic can get rubbed so much that the once dull painted surface gets glossy spots. If there is a lot of spot cleaning in this high-traffic area then this can cause burnishing. When a piece of furniture is rubbing against the flat paint surface, shiny areas will appear. If the paint that was used does not have scrub or stain resistance then this is the forerunner of the burnishing effect.

Painted areas such as window sills, trim and doors, need a higher grade of latex paint to endure the excessive use and cleaning. Also, areas that have high use or traffic and need to be spot cleaned often should not be painted with a flat paint but rather a gloss or semi-gloss. These paints are easily cleaned by using a sponge or soft cloth and a cleanser that is not abrasive. If the washed area is rinsed with clean water it will not end up have the burnishing problem.

A problem that happens as soon as the paint has been applied is called sagging. It is where the paint looks like it is drooping and the coat of paint then looks very uneven. There are several reasons this can happen. It can be the result of paint that has been thinned out too much or it can be from using too much paint or too thick of a coat of paint. Using a spray gun to apply your paint and holding it too close to the surface can also cause sagging. Weather conditions like humidity or really cold conditions will also make the paint droop.

To correct this problem while the paint is still wet, quickly reroll it or brush it to spread the excess of paint out evenly before it dries. If it is too late and the paint has dried you can sand the area lightly and then put on a new coat with high grade paint after the residue of the sanding is removed. To avoid this type of problem you need to use the paint as intended and not heap the paint onto the surface.

Decorating The Home

Professional House Painting Can Increase Your Property Value

By

Coming home to a freshly painted residence is a good feeling - it seems new, feels clean and is a more comfortable place to live. However, almost without notice, the house becomes "lived-in"; smudges, scratches and dirt can appear on walls over time- and the negative impact on the aesthetic of your home can happen without even knowing it.

There is research indicating that one's surroundings can affect the ability to relax and feel comfortable. Something as simple as the color on the wall has been shown to affect mood, attentiveness and the amount of time spent in a particular room. Interior and Exterior Painting can help to increase comfortability, heighten mood and enhance the home's curb appeal - in a cost effective way.

Friends, neighbors, and potential buyers all take notice of your home. The polished look of a well painted home will have a positive impact on their perceptions. If you own your home and are trying to sell or lease it, a professional house painting can increase your property value.

But can you have your house painted and live in it at the same time? Hiring experienced and professional residential painters will relieve much of the worry associated with repainting a home. They can provide color matching service, advice on which colors will work best and how to get the job done with the least interruption to your life.

Here are some guidelines to help you find the right residential painting contractors:

• An established company - Some painting companies are hasty and do a shoddy job. Ask for customer testimonials and to see examples of the company's work. Established companies want to make sure your needs are met and that you are completely satisfied.

• Enough staff to do the job properly and efficiently - For a small home, you do not want 10 people painting a 1,000 square feet. Similarly you don't want just two people painting a beachfront estate.

• Free Quotes - Professional residential painting contractors will be able to accurately estimate costs without too much effort - and stick to their price.

• Quality materials - Many house painters will use inferior grade paints to save money. Make sure the paints used are of superior quality and are durable.

Painting your home can benefit your lifestyle, improve curb appeal and increase the value of the property. The right painting company will do the work for a reasonable price and keep interruptions to a minimum. The benefits of residential repainting far outweigh the costs.

The Pro Painter: Efficient Interior Painting

By

painter

Professional Painters are known for their speed combined with a high-level of workmanship, but there is more to it than just 'painting fast'. Physical ability and dexterity do come into play, but there is a science to painting that is learned over time. There is a method to interior painting to make it go remarkably efficiently, and it come down to the philosophy of least exertion to achieve a given result. We will discuss some of these pro secrets to making interior painting as painless as possible.

We will consider the example of a complete repaint; that is, walls trim and ceilings of a house interior. The professional painter must work in a way that will get all of these surfaces coated with the correct paint, while achieving straight cut lines between them, and doing it all cleanly. If there is prep to do on any surfaces, this must be done right away to allow filling compounds time to dry. Depending on how much prep is needed it can be done by the entire crew, or one painter can prep while another starts painting as soon as practical.

Ceilings are usually the first things to be painted for one main reason: gravity. Paint splatter from ceiling rolling can get on the walls, so it makes sense to paint the walls later. If there are patches to do on the ceiling, though, you must account for this in your plan of attack. Sometimes, since trim is relatively small, it can be painted first and not be affected too much by paint splatter from ceiling and walls, so that can be done while allowing patches to dry on a ceiling when applicable. The main point is to think about the needs of a project and plan the steps taken to eliminate down-time.

Often times most of the ceilings can be painted relatively soon, and since walls are going to be painted as well, there is no sense cutting the edges with ceiling paint. The pro painter will simply paint roughly into the edges, and roll out the area of the ceiling, not worrying about overlap into the walls, because these will be edged with wall paint later. This saves significant time on unnecessary brush work. The same principle can be used where trim meets walls only one paint will need edging in most cases. Walls or trim can be done last, but consider that trim paint is usually more robust and glossier, so it will be preferable to paint it last.

When it come to painting the walls, rollers are fast, but you can't get around the need to brush edges. The goal is to minimize brush strokes while allowing for straightforward rolling of the rest of the wall areas. Rollers cant get within about 2 inches of adjoining ceilings, walls and trim, so the idea is to brush about 3 inches away from edges for some clearance, and this will allow faster rolling because you don't have to slow down near the edges. It also important to brush areas that are hard to reach with a roller, such as around a vent, or narrow sections of walls around doors or windows. The key to professional speed is doing exactly what is needed with the brush, and no more.

When painting several rooms with a team, the cutting should start first, and then rolling follows once walls are outlined, and the cutting should continue into all rooms with the same colour paint. Rolling takes less time, so either have more painters cutting, or one should start cutting and roll afterwards while another painter cuts continuously. Paint dries quickly, so the second coat can begin back at the start as soon as the first coat is rolled.

The last concern is to minimize cleanup and setup as much as possible. Paint-filled brushes and rollers can be wrapped in plastic and kept in a fridge to preserve them overnight if they will be used again, saving some clean up.

Painting and Decorating in Business

By

Many people take great pride in their homes and want everything to be perfect. Our homes are often a great sign of our personalities and characteristics. Our homes are probably the most expensive things we will buy. This is obviously why they are so important to us and we want to take great care of them.

When it comes to decorating your homes there are a couple of choices. You could first choose to decorate the house yourself, this is what some people like to do as they can then say they have done it all themselves and they can also feel they have really made the house their own. Other people who maybe have less time to commit to decorating their house can choose to have it decorated professionally. Some people may see this as cheating however it is all about what people prefer, there are some people who may feel they don't have the right skills necessary to take on the decorating of their home.

Painters and Decorators nowadays have a lot more responsibility when it comes to their jobs. In the past painters and decorators had a lot less responsibility and weren't required to carry out the things painters and decorators do today. In painting and decorating today painters and decorators are required to carry out much of the preparation and the end work of the job. They will normally start a job and complete much of the preparation of the job, this will include many things such as covering the floor and protecting items that may be at risk from paint splashes. Painters will mask up areas which need protecting and are not to be painted. They may even in some cases select and buy the paint for a particular job. At the end of the job they will be responsible for leaving the room looking as it did at the beginning.

If you would like to become a painter and decorator there are a couple of choices you can choose from to become one. You could become an apprentice working for a painter and decorator and gain the qualifications and experience necessary this way. Completing an apprenticeship is a good way of gaining experience that will help you in getting a job in the future. Another way of becoming a painter and decorator is by going to college and completing a course in the subject. This wont gain you as much practical experience as a working apprenticeship would however you will have the necessary qualifications which potential employers will recognise and appreciate that you have the knowledge and will know what you are doing.

Painting and Decorating Services: 15 Top Tips

By

Painting and decorating services is one of those provisions that we all consider and use at some time. It may be when you have just moved house or when you fancy a makeover, bringing your house up to date or when you are just looking for a change to your current décor.

Painting and decorating services differ widely in terms of their skill-base, prices and customer service but all offer largely the same thing in terms of product. All painting and decorating services will, as the title suggests) paint and decorate. However, the ways in which they do it, the skill level, qualification, accreditation, prices, customer service, guarantees, and likability can all differ greatly.

This is why it is important that you have confidence in the painting and decorating service you hire to carry out the work you want. All too many mistakes are made when hiring a good painter and decorator and all too many people go either for an odd-job man, a 'cowboy' or amateur. Far better you be sure about who you are hiring. So here are some key questions you need to ask before you commit to a provider:

1. Do they understand the job that you want doing? If it is complex then explain it clearly and make sure they know what you want.

2. Does the person have the requisite skills and ability to do the job - how do you know?

3. Make sure your service provider has either accreditations or qualifications that testify to their ability. Or that they are a member of a recognized association like the Painting and Decorating Association

4. Don't assume that because they don't have up to date qualifications that they aren't good at their job they may have just neglected this - find out.

5. Do they have references or examples of work they can show you that demonstrate the quality of their work?

6. Do they offer a guarantee for the work they do? What is it?

7. Seek out several quotes for the work you want doing. Don't necessarily go for the cheapest - see what they offer first.

8. If the painter and decorator is a 'one man' business then find out how many other jobs he has going on at the same time. If there are too many then they might find it difficult to complete your job in one go or they may take a long time. If there aren't any then try to find out why - are they just not busy at the moment or is there another reason?

9. Do they appear on a local authority list of certified providers?

10. Don't assume that the most expensive quote will be the best, and likewise don't assume that the cheapest won't be good.

11. If you have a busy lifestyle either through work or children that they can work flexibly.

12. If you have to leave them alone in your house don't leave valuables around. Niether assume that you can't trust them. The vast majority are like you - perfectly law abiding.

13. If the job is big and likely to take a long time and cost a lot of money then work out an agreement whereby you either pay when the whole project is complete or whereby you pay as each agreed stage is complete.

14. Bear in mind that one man businesses often work from job to job and so appreciate prompt payment to help with their cash flow. If they are good and you want them to come back then it may be worth doing this for good relations

15. Keep an eye on the project to make sure they are doing what you want them to. A provider doesn't want to be micro-managed but at the same time they'll appreciate your guidance

There are many aspects to painting and decorating services and find the right person with the right skills and qualifications is important. If you want to make the right start with your search then just click into our service page and seek a quote - there's no obligation but you can get an idea of how much a job will cost very quickly.

Benefits of Using a Professional Painter and Decorator

By

The first and most obvious benefit of hiring a professional painter and decorator is ease of use. Whilst it's true that most people can decorate to an okay standard, a lot of the time people do not take into account just how time-consuming the whole process can be. For example, if there are any coverings on the walls or ceilings that need removal, they will need to be stripped using a steamer, water and sponge, wallpaper stripper or maybe even a combination of all three. More often than not the surfaces underneath the wall coverings will need quite a lot of preparation work to bring them up to a level that is suitable for painting or the application of more wall coverings. A professional painter and decorator will have stripped wall coverings off numerous areas though out his career and will be able to remove it in a fraction of the time it takes a novice. A professional painter and decorator will also know exactly how much preparation is needed to any particular space, to make sure the required finish.

Another benefit of using a professional painter and decorator is the finish that they can produce. As I have said before, most people can decorate to an ok standard but if you want the space to look as good as it possibly can, there is no substitute for a professional decorator. among other things a professional decorator will have all the tools required for pretty much every eventuality and will also have the knowledge and know how that's required to produce a finish that not only looks great but can also produce a finish that will last.

Price can also be a major reason when deciding whether to enlist the services of a trained professional painter and decorator. Although it can seem tempting to do your own decorating work yourself, there are a few things that should be kept in mind when considering cost. For example, the paint that is available to buy at a DIY store, is more often than not of inferior quality to the materials a professional painter and decorator will use. A lot of the time a professional decorator will have a heavy discount with the paint manufactures which can bring the cost of using professional quality products nearer to that of the none trade paints available to the general public. It is also worth noting that if you do decide to do the your own decorating, you will have to purchase all the tools required to complete the job, where as a professional decorator should already have all the tools he needs, thus bringing the cost down even more.

Painting Decorating Contractors

Finding a Contractor for Home Painting and

Decorating

By

While many homeowners are compelled to do painting and redecorating jobs on their own, nothing beats the work of a professional. Do-it-yourselfers abound these days, and it isn't hard to find DIY painting tips and decorating tips. However, not many people are gifted with the skills required to deliver the expected results. Basic skills almost always create basic outcomes. You might be able to achieve really impressive results with what little you know about painting, but then again, it's highly likely that you might not. If you love your home, you're not going to leave it to chance, right?

To rid yourself of the possible frustrations, entrust the redecoration of your home to professional and experienced painting contractors. It isn't hard to find a good contractor these days, what with the help of the Internet. However, the huge number of available contractors also poses a challenge. Which among these contractors should you hire? The first and most obvious factor to consider is qualification. See if the contractor could provide you with qualified workers. Also, ask if they have membership with a renowned organization or federation in their respective industry. Then too, check where the decorators received their apprenticeship or education. Having trained from a reputable institution is a plus factor.

It's also critical to check out past projects. A good and reliable contractor usually provides a list of past painting and decorating jobs, which showcase their skills and knowhow. It likewise pays to inquire from former clients to know from another standpoint whether the contractor performed well or not. Satisfied clients only have good things to say, and many clients are brutally honest, which is a good thing. However, if it's difficult to keep in touch with past clients, you might visit the site to check out the work and judge for yourself if the contractor is worth your time.

Painters contractors must have insurance. This is to guarantee quality of service because if something goes wrong and the contractor is at fault, you're covered and free from liability. However, not all insurance policies provide the right amount of coverage, so it's worth checking which type of insurance the contractor has. It's imperative that the contractor remains compliant with industry standards and with applicable laws. It's a lot of trouble if things aren't done according to the rules. Also, the contractor must provide you with competitive estimate, and must be open for negotiation. Home painting and decorating do come with a price, but a good contractor works within your budget yet produces great results.

Decorating Your House

Dublin

Handy Tips for Painting and

Decorating

By

The number one reason as to why people paint and decorate their homes is to freshen up the look of their house. A new paint style gives new life to a drab room. To ensure a smooth finish, preparation is key. People like to take short cuts to avoid wasting time and money, but doing this can make your finished product look terrible. So in the rest of this article I'll be giving a few tips on how you can ensure the best results each and every time!

The first thing you need to do is to scrape away all the old chipped paint. Scrape as much of the old paint off as you can. Sand the rough areas with a bit of sandpaper wrapped around a sanding block. Aim to flatten the sides as much as possible so the new layer is as smooth as can be.

Your colour scheme should be selected very carefully, specific colours can work very well whether or not they are complimentary, such as various pastel shades, or extremely contrasting, as in the case of dark greys and bright greens. When selecting furniture and decorations to compliment the painting work, always remember the golden ratio - redecorating work always seems to look better when the prominent colour is used in about sixty per cent of the room, with thirty to forty per cent of the secondary colour and up to ten per cent of an accent colour. Soft furnishings, such as pillows, rugs and throws, or lighting make perfect accent pieces.

Natural lighting can make a massive difference to the feeling of space in a room, big windows and skylights give any room a bright and airy feel - to get the best results, ensure you use light colours, or be brave and go for that lively paint you've always wanted!

Many homes in Dublin suffer from poor natural lighting, so good interior lights are a necessity. For the best effect it is recommended that you attempt to create a sphere of light in the middle of the room.

When thinking about new decorating tools it's important to assess whether or not they are better than the more standard ways of paint brushes and rollers. This could all be down to individual taste but there are a few pluses or minuses of each painting method that need some thought before buying.

More recent ways such as the paint pod seem to initially be an intelligent idea. They spread paint very fast and there is definitely less work involved than utilising either a roller or paint brush. The downside of these devices are that the device itself is quite pricey and the pods of paint can be more costly than regular tins of paint.

How To Choose Art And Paintings To Decorate Your Home

By

Animal Clown (02.05.29.01). This watercolor by...

How do you choose art for your home? There are four factors that will affect how you go about choosing art and paintings to decorate your home. They are price, style, your house, and the artist. Some choose art for the beauty of the piece itself, while others look for treasures that will blend in well with their decor. Neither is wrong or right, but it's important to ascertain the kind of art buyer you are before choosing art for your home.

Style leads to the third factor, your home. For some, how art 'matches' means little, but for others, art is an accent and a part of the home. If your walls are covered in Victorian, floral wallpaper, perhaps that abstract might not look right. There's nothing wrong with purchasing a piece for color or style alone, just make sure that you like it too.

First, price. Set a price level for yourself. Some will argue that such stringent values shouldn't be put on art, but reality begs to differ. For less expensive options, try purchasing a print or reproduction, rather than an original or buying pieces from young, new artists. By setting a price limit for yourself before you begin your search, you'll also be able to narrow down where you'll be looking - from high-end galleries to print warehouses.

Second is style. You don't have to decide right away, but it can often help if you know whether or not you're looking for a traditional landscape or a minimalist abstract. Are you the sort of person that likes realistic portraits, or do you go for big, blotchy expressions of color? Think about your personal preferences and style before you wind up with a sketch of a horse when you really wanted a Pollock-esque oil.

Finally, the artist. Whether you're buying a print reproduction or an original, take some time to read the artist's statement and learn about the piece. You'll be surprised by how much this simple, yet fundamental background information into the work can influence your decision. Not only will you better understand the art you've chosen for your home, but you'll have a story to tell as well.

Above all else, make sure you like it and that you truly enjoy looking at it. Pick pieces that you want to stare at. It may take a lifetime to find them, but it's worth it.

The Best House Paint

The Best Exterior House Paint Ideas

By

As the homeowner who wants to make his home beautiful, it is your duty to paint it the right way. If you do it the wrong way, then your house would be a fashion flop, and that is not something any prudent homeowner would want to happen. Luckily, there many exterior house paint ideas, and you can choose one which best complements your house.

There are several things you need to factor in when choosing paint ideas that suit the outside of your house.  First, you have to consider your budget. There are paints for the outside of your house that are expensive, and there are house paints that are affordable. The key here in choosing several paint ideas however, is to compromise. Choose one that best suits your house while at the same time keeping your budget in check.

The next question you should ask yourself in choosing from the different kinds of exterior house paint ideas is the number of colors that you will use. On the average, modern homeowners choose only three colors from the different kinds of house paint ideas available. They use the paints to create a contrasting look, which is simple yet attractive the eye.

When choosing from several exterior house paint ideas, it is also best to factor in the style of your house and its materials. For example, a roof should be painted brown or with any other warm colors as it is usually the most easily seen fixture of your house.  If your house is made up mainly of brick, then it is recommended that you choose the color that best blends in well with the material.

A good way of choosing from the many exterior house paint ideas is to go to paint shops and ask for brochures. These can help you pick out the right colors. If your neighbor has the same home style and structure as your own house, then you can also ask him to help you pick out the paint ideas for the outside of your house that he used. If you're the modern homeowner who knows how to use the computer, then you can also use a software program which will allow you to paint and evaluate your house virtually. Software programs can be found on the Internet or are given out by paint manufacturers.

Choosing the best exterior house paint exterior ideas will give you the benefit of a house that is nice to see, and nice to live in.

Painting Fence Gates

Repainting Fence Gates

It's a Fence!

By: Kurt Zier

Through the natural wear and tear of the weather, wood fence gates sometimes seem to have their paint chip or peel off. Wanting your gates to be in top shape, you might want to repaint them when they start to look shabby. Since a wood fence gate might be the first thing someone sees when they approach your home, you will want them to look nice. Repainting wood fence gates is not a hard process and the small amount of time it takes to do it is well worth the payoff. You will probably need to buy a few supplies if you do not have them already, and prepare the wood fence gates a little bit before jumping right in to the paint, but it will not take long and your fence will be looking great in no time!
Before you repaint your wood fence gates, you should make sure you have, or go and purchase the paint, a paint brush, and sandpaper or a paint scraper. First, you will use the sandpaper or paint scraper to strip the old paint from off of the wood fence gates. Depending on your needs and your resources, you can decide if you want to use sandpaper or a scraper. As you strip the paint, you may come across a loose nail or a staple that is poking out on one side from the wood fence gates. When the paint is all scraped off, you should replace all the fallen out nails and remove all the poking out staples. Make sure the fence is in good repair by checking for any cracks or holes in the wood fence gates that you can fill with wood filler. You will want to be sure, also that you are not going to paint over any bugs or spider webs, twigs or dirt, so you should clean off the wood fence gates pretty well. Depending on if you want the hardware painted over, you should either take it off or tape it up before painting the wood fence gates. When the preparation work is all done, you can begin to paint the gate, starting on the front, going down to the sides, and around to the back. It is possible that you will want to paint on a second and third coat of paint so that you will not have to repaint it again quick as soon. Doing multiple coats will make the wood fence gates more durable and help them to last through bad weather, longer. If you have taken the wood fence gates off the hinges to repaint them, you should wait until they are completely dry before reattaching them to the gateposts.
Repainting your wood fence gate is a great way to be sure that it stays looking great and in top condition. Scraping and painting the gate is not a hard job to do, but you do need to know how to do it correctly before getting started so that you can be successful. Repaint your wood fence gate today and be happy with the beautiful results!

Painting and Decorating Techniques: Dragging

By

To create a feeling of luxurious silk or designer wallpaper "faux dragging" can be applied on the majority of adequately smooth and readied surfaces. Whilst it is a fairly easy technique to actually learn it creates enormous benefits to the overall painting and decorating project as the finishes are both luxurious and stunning.

A huge number of different glazes and latex paints can be used to create the "faux dragging" effect but we would always suggest using an oil based paint or glaze as it will give your more leeway in terms of trying to manipulate it into the requisite styles as non-oil based ones can dry extremely quickly. This best thing about this technique is that not only does it work on walls and ceilings but it can easily be applied to most types of woodwork and furniture.

The effect is created when a dry brush is pulled through a coloured glaze. In doing so the base colour is revealed in very fine lines, which make the wall's look like silk fabric. Dragging is most effective in soft colours such as pastels, over a white base coat. You can also use a cream or off-white base with tan or taupe colours to create a "vintage" look.

So here are the steps you need to take to perform "faux dragging":

Apply the two coats of a latex base coat (white or off-white). After painting both coats, let the wall dry for at least two hours.

Mix satin latex paint with latex glazing liquid according to the instructions n the package of the glazing liquid.

Apply the coloured glaze to a workable length of surface.

Start at one end and pull a 4" dragging brush (or any long bristled brush) through the wet glaze. You can also perform this technique using a dry rag. Repeat several times to get the desired effect. Keep your hand as steady as you can as you drag.

Also note that if you are actually working with the full height of a wall from ceiling to base board, you can use a very wide brush, such as a wallpaper brush or even the wide end of a broom.

Repeat steps 3 & 4 on the next area. Clean the dragging brush on a rag before dragging the next area.

If applying the dragging finish to woodwork or trim, apply a coat of varnish, after the finish is dry.

Painting Tips And Tricks

Chip tricks

Home Painting Tips

By

Remember, everyone starts as a beginner at painting. Just because you have never painted a house doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. The money you save by painting your own house is money you can put into other home improvements. It can also be a fun thing for the whole family to do.

Now we need to choose the colors we want to paint the house. There is a really cool tool online that you can use.http://www.benjaminmoore.com/wrapper_pcv.asp?L=owner&K=intproj&N=intproj Click let's paint. Choose exterior or the interior options. Choose the project closest to yours. Get started and you will soon know what color you want to paint your house and you'll have a vision of what it is going to look like when you're finished.

Here are some of the basics. Of course the first thing you need to do is wash down the walls of your house. A pressure washer can be rented at almost any rental yard and is the best way to do that. Now go around with a scraper and remove all loose paint and chipped areas. You don't have to scrape the entire wall, but any areas where the surface is not flat can cause you problems as you paint your house.

Next, figure out your square footage so you can determine the amount of paint you will need to buy. Buy your paint in 5-gallon pails, rather than gallons to save more money.

Talk to the helper at your local paint store and tell him about your project. They can help you decide on how many brushes and rollers and other items you will need. You can buy natural or synthetic bristles for oil based paints, but only use synthetic bristles with latex paint. The same rule applies to rollers. Good rollers can run you around $7, but buy high-quality paintbrushes. A good brush for cutting in around edges will run you about $30.

Make sure you purchased some painter's tape. It's blue tape that comes in different widths and is easy to remove without messing up your paint job. That brings us to preparation. Tape off all areas you don't wish to get this color of paint on. If there are large areas to cover, make sure you pick up some rolls of plastic. You can tape the edges of the plastic down over whatever you need to cover.

Don't paint out of the paint cans. First reason is that leaving the paint can open will dry out the paint and make it difficult to apply. Another reason is that your brush or roller picks up dirt and foreign objects, which will end up in your paint and may even change the color as you go along.

Do all of your cutting or trimming in before you paint the walls. Use a 4" brush and with a smooth stroke guide it around the edges where you taped off. Make sure you have plenty of paint on your brush. The biggest mistake people make is trying to stretch the paint too far. Keep drips cleaned up as you go with a small rag. Remember you will be rolling up to the edge of your cut, so don't worry about that, just make sure you cover the edges well.

Start on the edges of your walls and work your way toward the middle. Most people don't do this and problems can result. If you start and new can of paint in the middle of the wall and there is any difference in the color at all, it will show up there more than it would on the edges. So with each new can of paint you open, start at the edges first.

Dip your roller in water (for Latex) or solvent (for oil-based paint), before you start. Whether you use a pan or a 5-gallon bucket with a screen, make sure you roll it out a little to make sure it isn't dripping. You don't need to go all the way from the top to the bottom as you paint. Do what you can reach.

Apply the paint in a Y or an N pattern, then apply paint in columns up and down smoothing out all the edges or ridges as you go. Again don't try to stretch the paint out, make sure you have enough paint on your roller to give it a good coat. If you are applying more than one coat, make sure the first coat is completely dry before applying a new coat of paint.
Corners are a difficult part to learn to paint. If you aren't careful, this is where you will see paint drips later. Get as close to corners as you can, but don't scrape the roller against the corner. That will cause drips. If you are unsure, have a paintbrush handy to smooth out drips. That is also a good idea overall. Keep a paintbrush ready for taking care of any drips or ridges you leave behind. Doing this as you go is much easier than trying to fix it after it's dry or partially dry.

Using tray liners for your paint trays will save you a lot of time at cleanup. Soak your brushes when done for awhile and they will also be easier to clean. For water based paint, soak in water and for oil based paint soak them in solvent.

I hope some of these tips have been helpful to you. Have confidence that you can do this job yourself. You will appreciate and enjoy it much more knowing that you or you and your family completed the job rather than hiring someone else to do it.

Exterior Paint

PEELING PAINT ON THIS NEPTUNE ROAD HOUSE TYPIF...

The Right Exterior Painting Color For Your Home

By

Painting is often touted as one of the easiest ways to improve the look and feel of your home, but many homeowners don't know where to start when it comes to exterior painting. It's still true that exterior painting is one of the easiest and least expensive (as well as least time-consuming) ways to improve the value of your home and give your house a fresh new look, but this is one area of home improvement where it really pays to slow down and do some research before beginning. Despite the fact that paint, even exterior paint, is relatively cheap no one wants to have to redo it a few weeks later because it didn't turn out as expected. There are many aspects to consider before you go falling in love with a specific paint color: consider your neighbors and your neighborhood (even if you don't have an HOA, this is still a nice courtesy), think about how that color will look at night or in the shade and find out how well a specific color will hold up to sun damage.

Begin by looking at books, magazines and even TV shows on the home improvement channel for exterior painting color inspiration. Picking the right color is important, especially becauseit will cover such a significant amount of space and be so visible to anyone who goes by. Plus, if you're considering selling your home that color should be appealing to potential buyers, especially because color can get people in your home faster with increased curb appeal, and help it sell for a higher price with the additional value it adds.

If you can't decide between a few different colors, you can narrow it down by walking around your neighborhood and see how well the colors of other homes fit in with the surrounding landscaping. Do you want your home to be a complement or a contrast to the colors on your block? Is your landscaping similar to that of your neighbors, and do your neighbor's paint color match the landscape design? Your exterior paint color will be affected by what it's surrounded by.

Once you've narrowed down your color talk to a representative in a painting store or a professional painting contractor. Finding your perfect color in a magazine doesn't mean you'll find the exact match in a paint store and the color could look completely different on a page or on the TV than they will on your house. It would be awful to get the paint up only to find yourself telling others it's not quite what you expected. A trained professional will also be able to help you figure out which brand works best (and lasts the longest!) on your type of house and also be able to help you further narrow down your color. Ask about good coverage, which brand or style will suit your house best.

The last step is to apply a sample or two to each side of your house and observe the color in the daylight as well as at night. If you still love it after a day or two then you've found your perfect exterior paint color! This effort and thought will pay off big time in the end, and you'll be proud you've selected the color that fits your home better than the rest, and your house will look exactly the way you wanted when you set out to paint your home. The right color and brand of paint will last for many years, providing great looks and benefits for a long time.
