Revitalize Your Home's Exterior: Residential

Exterior Painting and Siding Staining

By

Summer months are right around the corner which means warmer weather and the great outdoors. In terms of home improvement, the warm-weather months means work to your home's exterior including exterior painting and siding staining or restoration. Your home's exterior is the first thing anyone shall see and thus it is important to actively maintain it. While there are a number of things you can do to your home's outside, two of the most common and useful services are either adding a coat of paint or restoring your home's siding. With either service, you can dramatically improve your home's visual appearance, maintaining its value, and ensuring you have an aesthetically pleasing environment to call home.

A fresh coat of paint can make a world of difference and it certainly applies to your home's exterior. Weather can cause significant damage, particularly after a brutal winter, so this time of the year is an ideal time to correct the natural wear and tear that has occurred. Exterior painting, especially in multi-level homes, can be a treacherous proposition so its recommended you leave the work the professional residential exterior painting contractors. By doing so, you can ensure that you get a professionally applied coat of paint with the protections that come with hiring a professional painting company.

While a fresh coat of paint can do wonders to the look of your home, the same can be said of restoring or staining your siding. Like a coat of paint, weather can take its toll on your siding, leaving uneven strips. New staining techniques tend to last for 5 years making it a quality home investment. Additionally, recent developments in staining products have created a variety of environmentally friendly products and a professional residential exterior company can clean, strip, and stain your siding in one package.

One can additionally stain and/or restore your home's deck. Like your home's exterior, weather takes its considerable toll on your deck and a new coat of stain can make a deck look fresh. By going with a professional deck staining company, you can ensure that your deck will be properly stripped, sanded, and stained which establishes greater longevity.

Whatever home project you have in mind, now is the time to start planning for work on your houses' exterior. Whether it's a new coat of paint, staining your siding, or staining your deck, you can have your house looking fresh and ready for the summer.

Painting And Decorating Quotes

697 - Painted Smile - Pattern

How to Ensure You Get the Best Painting Quote

By

There are several factors in ensuring you get an accurate quote from painting contractors. Before you flip through the local directory or do an online search ask around to find out who your friends and family have used. Ask about their experiences and if they would feel comfortable referring them to you. Check out online reviews and visit a few websites to get a feel for a company.

Once you have whittled it down to three companies, decide which days would be best for appointments. Painters should not be scheduled to appear at the same time. You want an hour or so for a bigger project to go through everything to be included in the quote. Prior to them arriving, make a list of the areas to be covered and try not to deviate away from this. You want each contractor to be working off the same list so as not to add confusion to the quoting.

Here are a few questions to ask during the quote

Are you insured (you are free to ask them to email or fax their certificate)

Do they hire sub contractors or employees?

What is covered in the quote?

Do I get a choice on what paint is used?

Do you have referrals (if it is exterior ask if you can see them)?

Am I covered by a contract and how are changes dealt with?

Do you provide a workmanship warranty?

Once the quoting process is complete and you have them in hand compare them for any discrepancies. If something doesn't add up don't hesitate to call them up and clarify. If needs be get any changes in writing. Remember the price shouldn't be the deciding factor. Would you feel comfortable having them in your home? Did they turn up to the quote looking respectable? Were they flexible to your needs? All of these things should be taken into consideration before you make your final decision.

One of the most common problems we see would be a paint job gone bad a couple of years after it was completed. Most of these jobs were the lowest quote. Subpar products were used, improper preparation was performed or the painters simply didn't apply the paint under the right conditions.

So in short the best way to get an honest and accurate quote is to start off on the right foot. Have a list that you don't deviate away from. Ask any questions that come to mind and don't be afraid to keep asking questions if and when they arise throughout the rest of your painting project.

Home Decorating Supplies

Essential Decorating Supplies Explained

Author: Jessica Thomson

When it comes to decorating supplies there are the obvious pieces of equipment and then there are other devices and accessories which are easy to overlook. Obviously your choice of tools depends on the job at hand. For instance stripping wallpaper will require different apparatus from varnishing an interior door. Therefore here is a guide to the usual suspects and some handy extras in terms of decorating supplies:

When you hear the phrase decorating supplies the things that immediately spring to mind are paint rollers and brushes. One of the most popular forms of decorative domestic work is giving an interior surface a lick of paint. Brushes are useful on things like window sills and frames where detail is important and paint rollers are used where large areas are painted a single cover. Ceilings in particular are common candidates for this as the extra reach of a roller is advantageous. Both these forms of decorating supplies come in various shapes and sizes.

Other essential decorating supplies include scrapers and filling knives. The former is used for getting rid of stray bits of wallpaper and the latter is for filling in holes and cracks in plasterwork using a thick substance which sets and can be sanded - which brings us onto our next decorating supplies; sandpaper is important for getting the final finish needed for painting and wallpapering. Available in various different grains ranging from the very fine for detailed work to coarse enough to smooth out major imperfections, this can be applied by hand or using electrical belt sanders (which get their name from the belt-shaped roll of sandpaper) or orbital ones (decorating supplies which use discs of sandpaper which are rotated at high speed).

As you can imagine none of the above decorating supplies would be effective without large sheets to help reduce the mess left by decorating. Paint splatters and blobs of stray filling agent can ruin a carpet or floorboards so it is necessary to get the right fabrics to prevent your work from being counterproductive.

We have just scratched the surface of what decorating supplies need to be bought. For the above items and a range of other pieces of kit visit Decoratingsundries.co.uk.

How to Select the Best Painting Contractor

By

Regardless of why you need to have a painting job done, choosing the best possible painting contractor is imperative. With the sheer number of contractors offering their services online and offline, it could be hard to separate the reliable from the unreliable. We have some suggestions that could come in handy and might provide you the help you need in finding a painting contractor you can entrust with just about any kind of painting job required.

Normally, your first instinct may be to do a quick Internet search or grab the phone book and start picking names at random. The former option is more effective, as your average painting contractor on the Internet wouldn't be bound by the space constraints dealt with by those posting their numbers on the yellow pages. They would have more room to describe their services, list their prices and post photos of their work. Phone book ads don't give you much insight into a painting contractor's capabilities - usually they just post their number and that's it. But the best option would still be to search online and/or offline AND ask recommendations from people you know and trust. You just might hear a few common suggestions offered, and if you do, you should definitely add those names to your shortlist of candidates.

Once you've listed down a few companies, you can start studying their websites. Again, you'll want to check those photos of completed painting jobs and compare prices and services. It's also a good idea to check their guestbook for feedback. Be wary of "fine print" and always be the lookout for hidden catches. If something looks and sounds too good to be true, it most likely is too good to be true. If the website looks as if the designer "mailed it in", then you might want to scratch the company in question from your list. Unprofessional web design is often a sign of a lazy company.

Aside from the website content, you should certainly consider how long a painting contractor has been operating. But to be more specific, inquire about how long the contractor has been CERTIFIED. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can claim to have thirty years painting experience, but if they have only been certified one year out of that thirty, it won't do you much good.

Lastly, you should consider the price you will be paying the painting contractor. While you shouldn't get too excited over ridiculously low prices (remember that in most cases, you get what you pay for), you shouldn't have to overpay for any kind of painting done in or around your home or building.

Hiring the right painting contractor can ensure your home or building remains in the best of shape and continues leaving a good impression to the public.

Painter And Decorator Courses

Interior Design Courses in India

By

Expert Author Benny Balneg

Choosing to undertake design courses is much easier than it used to be. Whereas such courses were not common career moves in years gone by, they are today because the demand for such a service had increased dramatically.

You can find good education no matter where you are in the world but few countries seem to have embraced it as much as India. However, interior design courses in India seem to be a little neglected in terms of the coverage offered on the Internet these days so this article offers a guide as to where you can find the best courses and get the proper education that you need in order to forge a successful career in the field.

Why Choose Interior Design Courses?

They are widely available in all areas of India these days but before you look at them on an individual basis, you need to seriously think about what you want to achieve from the course. Few people look for interior design courses in India unless they actually want to embark on a career in the field in the first place but there are numerous areas within the course itself to choose from.

Courses in design are purposely formulated to offer the students on them the skills they need, both practical and in theory, to do the best job they can and succeed in the industry. As such, you should be looking for courses that cater for the requirements of a specific field. For example, you may choose a career in planning and organizing in residential dwellings. Alternatively, you may choose to go into the more commercial side of interior designing and thus into retail, theatre, conferencing or any number of other industries. Always check out your options in the individual areas before applying for various courses.

Available Indian Courses In Interior Design

There are numerous interior design courses in India and course providers are located all over the country. As such, geography may determine the availability of a course for you. However, if geography is no object then check out all of your options before deciding. The following is effectively a summary of the course availability.

First of all, Mumbai has the greatest choice of design courses in India. There are specialist courses offered at the EDIT Institute, SNDT Women's University, Rachna Sansa School Of Interior Design, Sophia College B. K. Somani Polytechnic, Nirmala Niketan College Of Home Science and J. J. School Of Arts. All offer a range of interior design programs that introduce students to the basics of the trade and some more advanced techniques that will be required to enhance your portfolio and help you to stand out from the crowd.

There are also interior design courses available in Calcutta at the Anima Institute of Fashion and the Birla Institute of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences; in Channai at the College of Art and Design at the University Of Madras; in New Delhi at the Apeejay Institute of Design and the South Delhi Polytechnic for Women; and in Ahmedabad at the School of Interior Design. Of course, there are also other courses elsewhere in the country. For example, Bangalore is a haven for such courses and has some of the best schools in the country but it is not the only area of the country to produce some of the most talented interior designers. The trick is to find the best course for you out of those that are conveniently located. Then you have to commit to making your love for designing a viable career.

The School of Interior Design features the best interior design schools and alternative education on your way to become a designer in the future. Visit the site at http://www.schoolofinteriordesign.org/ to learn more about interior design schools.
